1. I thought this movie was okay. It definitely kept me on my toes and it was very suspenseful. I didn't like in my opinion that their was a lot of shooting and people getting killed left and right. I know that the shooting parts of the movie couldn't be left out but, personally I'm not a fan of that much gun use. The movie was a great interpretation of what went on during that time, and the directors did a great job of making it realistic and depicting how life was like during that era. I would recommend it to people who like a lot of violence and who are interested in what life was like throughout that time period.
2. Vito Corleone is the center of the film because he was the ring leader behind all of the crime that went on. He showed great bravery and watched out for everyone. Vito meant business and wasn't messing around. I think he used the method of tough love on his children, but that was for the best. He made it his point to protect his family and friends. When Vito died it was very traumatic part of the movie. You saw the happiness in his eyes running around with his grandson and it was a very surprising moment and it was very depressing. After Vito passed very unexpectedly I think everyone was thinking "What do we do now?" People were upset and yes, the crime probably went down but he was the center of it all so yes maybe the world began to become a better place slowly.
3. Organized crime I thought wasn't that open. Most people kept it on the down low. In the movie it seemed as though everyone throughout their family and in that group knew about everything that was going on, and that was going to happen. Organized crime to me seems like it would be very secretive within a small group of people that are involved. Yes, I think that this film is considered a "classic" because it really shows what went on back then, and what the people behind organized crime were thinking and their motives behind killing mass amounts of people.
I agree with Casey in that I didn't know organized crime was that open either. It seemed like people knew who everyone was and whether they were apart of something or not. It also seemed like when someone was shot in the street like Vito, or when Michael shot the Police officer in the restaurant, the bystanders didn't really react. Civilians on the street or in the restaurant calmly walked away, didn't scream, and didn't do anything. Maybe it was the way the movie was portrayed that the people seemed like they didn't care that someone was hurt or shot, but it was definitely something that I noticed.

ReplyDeleteGreat post Casey, I agree with you fully about there was to much violence in this movie. They could have handle their problems in different ways. Also Vito was about business he had no room in his life for games, he was all about getting his money and protecting his family.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with you on the points that you made about Vito. I liked his approach to his business, and the way that he raised his children. He showed them that the world was cruel, but he did prepare them for it, which I thought was fully admirable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what casey said about how Vito showed great bravery throughout the movie. The business he was in was a dangerous one and he always did his best to protect his loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment about Vito. He was the families protector and would do anything for people he loved.
